Viking Oven Clicking But Not Lighting? Here's Why

Before you call

1. Time how long it clicks before you give up

   A normal igniter lights within a few seconds. If it clicks well past that without lighting, the igniter likely isn't getting hot enough to open the gas valve.
2. Check for a burnt or cracked igniter tip

   If you can safely look, a healthy igniter tip glows bright orange evenly. A dim glow or a visible crack means it's failing.
3. Confirm the gas supply is fully on

   A valve bumped during other kitchen work is an easy miss and looks identical to an igniter fault from the front.
4. Check for a gas smell

   If you smell gas while it clicks, stop immediately, turn off the burner and the gas supply, and call your gas utility before calling us.
5. Note whether it's one burner or the whole oven

   A single dead burner points to that burner's igniter or valve; the whole oven not lighting points to the safety valve or control board.

When it's time to call a technician

Clicking with no gas smell that goes on past a few seconds is almost always the igniter — a straightforward, common repair on Viking ranges. Clicking with a gas smell is a safety issue first, repair call second.
